Our inaugural Social Media Expedition meeting of the year is this Wednesday morning at the University of Memphis – Holiday Inn from 7:30 to 9:30. Please RSVP (or sign-up) at the MeetUp site.

In addition to the networking and wildly popular focused discussions (Core Conversations), we’ll have two presentations: one virtual and the other live. Vote on your topics for the Core Conversations here.

Connie Bensen will be guest presenting Techrigy. Connie is a nationally recognized Community Management maven and will be joining us from subzero Minnesota.  She will be presenting Techrigy: A leading social media monitoring and analysis tool. We hope this to be only Connie’s initial presence with us with hope of perhaps a future presentation on Community Management. He will share information about Social Media utilization during the election and expected uses for Mid-South Community Organizers. Kerry was a volunteer for the “Memphis for Obama” campaign during the summer and fall of 2008.  Subsequently he has become one of the leaders of Mid-South Community Organizers, a community service organization dedicated to improving Memphis and Shelby County through grassroots action and legislative outreach.  Kerry is also the Marketing Manager for the Stax Music Academy and The Soulsville Charter School.

We also want you to be aware of several expeditionary events that will be taking place in January:

• On Friday the 9^th, Nashville will be hosting their monthly Geek Breakfast.  All members of the expedition are invited to come meet the Social Media Geeks in Nashville and join some great conversations.
• January 19^th is MLK Jr. Day.  We are assembling an expeditionary caravan to travel to Money, MS to visit several of the historical sites surrounding the murder of Emmitt Till, one of the events credited with sparking the American Civil Rights movement.  We plan on using Social Media to raise awareness of this historical event.
• Friday, January 23^rd, is the Universe of Dreams performance at Germantown Performing Arts Centre.  We will be arranging a Tweetup beforehand and there will be discount tickets available to members of the Expedition.
