July Twilight Camp Gets a Foursquare Location!

July Twilight Camp Gets a Foursquare Location!

First, a participant created a Foursquare check-in for Twilight Camp, and everyone with access to the program made their presence known. This launched a comparison of Gowalla to Foursquare. Yes, Android danger! No, but really - everyone who owns an Android needs to be aware of this study by SMobile. The high and low of it is that Google doesn't put the Android apps through the same kind of intense scrutiny that Apple does for it's market. Although we are tempted to just select "Allow" over and over to reach the end of an installation and get to eating ghosts with our new Pac-Man app, you may just allow spyware onto your phone. Scroll down into the study for a list of permissions your app may ask for and what exactly they mean. Do you know for a fact that you haven't granted any apps permission to PROCESS_OUTGOING_CALLS? It sounds harmless enough, but it means the app can monitor, modify, or even abort your outgoing calls. [...more]

Social Expedition Podcast #16: Gadget Unveilings, Yelp, 20 Under 30, Eric Mathews

This is our 16th episode. We’re growing up so fast – and Elizabeth still hasn’t gotten the hovercar somebody promised her. And while we’re coming of age, social media shows no signs of stopping its growth and constant reinvention. The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) took place recently, and the nascent gadget freaks in us await [...] [...more]
