So the podcast is undergoing a series of logistical trial and error tests. New formats. New segments. Some delays in getting it out to you. To make it up to you, though, we bring you a fascinating interview with the creators of the Children of the Wall film project, Sarah Bolton and Eric Swartz. Never imagined [...] [...more]
Coming to an app-store near you: StiQRd! Founded right here in snowy (at least for today) Memphis, Tennessee, StiQRd is a location-based check-in service (like Foursquare or Gowalla), but it’s unique characteristic is in the program’s marriage of QR codes and GPS location. Aaron Prather, the CEO, is the real expert though, so we’ll let [...] [...more]
Today’s breakfast had a great crowd, which was fantastic because we crowd-sourced our topic! To kick off the year, we decided to ask Expeditioners for their Predictions for 2011 in social media and technology. It seems many of the members are placing their bets on QR codes and mobile devices. Of course it’s all speculation, [...] [...more]
Can using your cell phone on an airplane cause the controls to malfunction? Apparently not. But since take-off and landing are the most likely times for some kind of problem, the airlines probably ask you to “turn off all electronics” so you aren’t distracted in the case of an emergency. Yes, Android danger! No, but really - everyone who owns an Android needs to be aware of this study by SMobile. The high and low of it is that Google doesn't put the Android apps through the same kind of intense scrutiny that Apple does for it's market. Although we are tempted to just select "Allow" over and over to reach the end of an installation and get to eating ghosts with our new Pac-Man app, you may just allow spyware onto your phone. Scroll down into the study for a list of permissions your app may ask for and what exactly they mean. Do you know for a fact that you haven't granted any apps permission to PROCESS_OUTGOING_CALLS? It sounds harmless enough, but it means the app can monitor, modify, or even abort your outgoing calls. [...more]
We’re all Google-y eyed for our 15th show, talking about Google’s recent stand off with the Chinese government and a patent that might see the company placing real-time ads into your street view in the near future. But it wasn’t all about Google — we gave Facebook a little attention as well, mostly because lately [...] [...more]
